Just passing by when i came upon this particular blog post.

Christmas Isn’t Christmas is a song I sang solo (for 3/4 of the song) for a live recording of our church’s Christmas Eve midnight mass back when I was in Primary 3 (Grade 3). I have not sung it for years now, but was reminiscing my childhood days…

and plus, it’s Christmas soon (2 months, 12 days – i counted).

It’s still a very meaningful Christmas carol and will always be. =)

Hey man – just read your blog.

Christians don’t have a monopoly on Christmas – after all, Christians hijacked the holiday from a number of different sources. Many cultures celebrated on the 25th of December, because that was the winter solstice. So when Christians complain that Christmas is getting too commercialized, I remind them that it was never really about religion in the first place.

So…. merry Sol Inviticus! Merry Saturnalia! (Not that I’m a Pagan you see, I’m a Skeptic).

I am from South Africa. As we are in the Southern Hemisphere, we celebrate Christmas during summer of course. We have a carol here called Somerkersfees, which has become very popular. It was written by a singer-songwriter and poet, Koos du Plessis, who died in 1984. A few weeks ago I decided to translate the song into English.
